Record progesterone test results on your dog’s heat cycle in BreedTracker. The heat page charts the results and displays a breeding recommendation based on the latest reading.

Why it matters
- Progesterone results stay with the heat cycle. A Recommendation box shows the stage and next step on the heat page.
- Your dashboard flags Breed now when the female’s level reaches that stage, even when you are viewing another page.
- The moment you log a breeding, the expected whelp date is calculated and a litter is one click away.
- Every test stays on the female’s record, so next season you can compare previous progesterone results.
Before you start
Log a progesterone test result
- Open Heats (in the left menu, or under More on a phone) and select the female’s current heat.
- Select Log progesterone.
- Enter the Progesterone Level and the Test Date. The lab name is optional but handy for the record.
- Select Save test.
Read the progesterone chart and recommendation
Near the top of the heat page, a Recommendation box shows the next step based on the latest result.
The chart below shows the recorded results against progesterone bands. The table describes the bands shown in BreedTracker.

| Under 2 ng/mL | What it meansToo early. Retest in a day or two. |
| 2 to 5 | What it meansThe LH surge. Ovulation is about two days out. Hold off on breeding; test daily. |
| 5 to 10 | What it meansOvulation. The window is opening. Natural or fresh: begin breeding. Chilled or frozen: wait two to three days. |
| 10 to 30 | What it meansPeak fertility. The best time to breed, and the right time for frozen or chilled semen. |
| Over 30 | What it meansLikely past the window. Judge by days since the level crossed 5, and confirm with your vet. |
These are guides to timing, not a substitute for your reproductive vet. BreedTracker says the same thing under every chart.
Record a breeding on the heat cycle
- On the heat, select Log breeding, choose the sire, and enter the date and method.
- BreedTracker shows the expected whelp date, 63 days out, and offers Create litter. You do not have to create it yet; the offer stays until you do.
The female’s page keeps a conception record. Each breeding is listed with its semen type and method, and whether it took.
